M.O.M Sara, From Penrose

Meet our Mommy of the Month Sara!

Sara is the founder and designer of Penrose Design Studio and mom to Penny. She lives in Philadelphia, PA

Here are some fun question and answers from our M.O.M Sara

What was the thing that surprised you most when you became a mom?
How natural being a mom was for me!  Penny was a surprise for us and at the time when I found out I was pregnant I thought I was no where near ready to be a mom.  But after she was born I thought: oh ok so THIS is everything, this is what I was made to do.  I was also surprised by the deeper understanding I gained about the love my mom has for me, I definitely value and appreciate it more now.
What do you wish someone else had told you about parenting so you would be better prepared?  It is a messy job!!  Food everywhere at meal time, spit-ups, diaper accidents, runny noses, never ending toys.  I wish someone had given me a life hacks book for every messy situation.  We are in the midst of potty training so those tips would really come in handy for us now!
What is your biggest accomplishment you are most proud of? (does not have to be about your kids!)
Becoming an entrepreneur and starting my own fashion business.  I had been a designer for Anthropologie for 10 years when I had Penny, and I realized it was too much for me to work full time, I didn't have enough time with my baby!  So I went part time there, then after a year decided to start my own brand so I could make my own hours and continue my time at home raising my little girl.
What are your must have items in your diaper bag?
Snacks: I always have a trail mix of nuts and raisins; Sunscreen: Penny has the fairest skin (we like Babyganics mineral-based spray) and a shea/coco butter mix we make ourselves and use as an all-purpose cream.
If you had a day kid free to do anything you want, what would you do?
Shopping for myself!  I love doing activities with Penny and she is usually well behaved while we are running errands or if we go out to dinner.  I love to take my time browsing antique markets and vintage stores and she has a very short attention span!
Any advice for first time moms?
Take advise from other moms with a grain of salt.  Children and families are so different and what works for one mom might not work for you.  I always say trust your instinct.  You are the mom so naturally you will know what's best for your child, even if it feels like you have no idea!
